Heroine of Day One

Dean’s Mum.

She appeared in the middle of Bodmin Moor to cheer us on (and give us chocolate), phoned ahead to book a Travelodge for us (we’d very foolishly planned to wing it), and was standing on a bridge over the dual carriageway, waving madly at us as we arrived. The day would have been a lot harder without her. It was pretty hard anyway – 110 miles, with almost no flat. Definitely the hardest century I’ve ever done.
